Marcellus laxers Merritt and Barstow earn "All-Star" lacrosse honors with Roadhawks

Two Marcellus Varsity lacrosse players have earned "All-Star" honors at two back-to-back venues in New York State.

Goalie Donald "Marshall" Merritt and defensemen Matthew Barstow were honored with "All-Star" status at The Lake Erie All Star Showcase in Buffalo and at The All American Lacrosse Camp in Hamilton. Both play for the Central New York Roadhawks Lacrosse organization.

Donald "Marshall" Merritt is hoping to play lacrosse in college while he works toward a degree in Early Childhood Education. The soon-to-be Marcellus senior would like to teach second grade and coach high school sports. When he’s not in the goal, “Marshall” is an offensive linemen with the Marcellus Varsity Football Team, sings with the Marcellus High School Chorus, performs on stage in Marcellus’ All-School shows, is a volunteer coach at many local youth sports programs and works part-time at the Marcellus Subway. Merritt, the son of Mary and Donald S. Merritt, received the prestigious Daniel Garrison Award for Outstanding Citizenship in 2004.

Matthew Barstow is hoping to play lacrosse in college while studying Pre-Law. Barstow is a defensive linebacker on the Marcellus Varsity Football Team and a member of the Marcellus Varsity Indoor Track Team. He is also a percussionist with the Marcellus Senior High School Symphonic Band. Barstow, the son of Kathy and Dr. Timothy Barstow, is also active with St. Michael’s Lutheran Church in Camillus.

The Lake Erie All Star Showcase is a highly competitive lacrosse tournament located on the shores of Lake Erie in Buffalo, NY. This tournament’s unique location allows teams from the Northeast and Midwest United States and Canada to easily come together to face-off. The event was held June 23, 2007.

As the world's first lacrosse camp, the All American Lacrosse Camp has provided specialized training for boys since 1966, and in that time has produced over 300 high school and college All-Americans, Club All-Stars, and MLL & USA Team players. This year’s All American Lacrosse Camp ran from June 24 through June 28, 2007.
