Opening Day stories

After the first day of competition at the 31st annual Empire State Games, it has become obvious that we are in for a great tournament. Long Island, although 2-0, has faced two tough competitors in Western (14-12) and Hudson Valley (9-8). Central, although they have not face a significant threat, have demonstrated their strength with convincing wins. Tomorrow’s games will continue to bring about a high level of competition.

Team Outlooks from Inside Lacrosse

The Empire State Games is one of the top showcases for scholastic lacrosse talent all summer, with the top players from six regions in New York (Adirondac, Central, New York City, Long Island, Western NY and the Hudson Valley) facing off in four days of play.

Zak Tingley is getting ready to play quarterback on the Horseheads High School varsity football team, has his sights set on the rigors of attending the U.S. Naval Academy and someday wants to soar thousands of feet in the air as a Navy pilot. Clearly, this is a kid who's not afraid of a challenge.

Medal Games Return

Missing from the Men's Lacrosse ESG Tourney for many years, Medal Round games return for 2008. On Sunday, July 24th, the final day of competition, the Bronze Medal Game will be played at 9AM, followed by the Gold Medal Game at 11AM.

Central and New York City kick off the competition playing in the opening match of the Games at 9AM Thursday, July 24th. Later that day, Central takes on Adirondack. Friday should be a tough day for Central as they face Western at 11AM, and bring the day to a close with an 8PM game against Long Island. The teams play only one game on Saturday, with Central and Hudson Valley closing out the round-robin schedule with a 7PM game.
