Marquardt was selected for one of the National Federation of High Schools Region 1 Coaches of the Year awards, joining five other coaches in New York state as honorees.

Lauren Elizabeth Webster of Manlius, NY passed away Thursday, December 19, 2013 at home. Lauren was born in Syracuse, NY on January 25, 1990. She graduated from Fayetteville-Manlius High School in 2008 and attended Oneonta State University and Onondaga Community College. Lauren was an outstanding lacrosse goalie and played for the 2005 F-M State championship team and went on to play for the OCC Women's team that was the Junior College National Championship in 2011.

Rob Pannell made the most of his fifth year at Cornell. He question-mark dodged and pulled the strings on opposing defenses to the tune of 47 goals and 55 assists in 2013. In his final collegiate game, Pannell passed Matt Danowski as the NCAA's all-time leading scorer (354 points). Then he won the Tewaaraton Award, the sport's highest individual honor. His 102 points this season were the most ever by a winner.

Ugh. I’ve heard too many variations of this post’s title when I ref U9, U11, U13, and U15 boys lacrosse games. I’ve noticed that the new parents shout out what they perceive as incorrect calls and no-calls. Typically, the moms cry “foul!” when their child gets body-checked, and the dads shout “no way!” when their child is called for an illegal body-check. These shout outs indicate a lack of understand of the various youth boys lacrosse rules on proper body contact at each level.

The Marist men’s lacrosse team has named its captains for the upcoming 2014 season. Head coach Keegan Wilkinson has announced that seniors Kevin Dondero (Smithtown, N.Y.), Michael Linehan (Rye, N.Y.), Gannon Osborn (Canandaigua, N.Y.) and junior Dave Scarcello (Buffalo, N.Y.) have been named captains.

Major League Lacrosse, the premier professional outdoor lacrosse league, announced that it will postpone the 2014 Supplemental Draft to Wednesday, December 11 at 2:30 p.m. The league has also announced that the Player Pool Registration deadline has been extended to Friday, December 6 at Noon.

After I listed all the people I was thankful for last week, I realized I had forgotten a rather large group of people who helped me tremendously in my coaching days, and now I’m embarrassed to admit that they didn’t come to mind as I wrote last week. Some might have been around for a single semester; other stuck around for years. Most of them were volunteers, and the ones who did get paid didn’t get paid anything close to what they were worth.

I’m talking about all the assistant coaches I had during my 28 years at Oswego State. Forgive me if I leave one or two out, but I’m going to try to name them all.
