SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse women's lacrosse team will host its annual Play Day on Saturday, Sept. 30 at the Lampe Athletics Complex. Ten different schools will take part in the event that begins at 10 a.m.
The Hobart Statesmen are the second Division I team to unveil their 2018 schedule. The Upstate New York squad is eager to return to the NCAA Tournament after losing to Bryant in the NEC championship game last year in Geneva.
When US Lacrosse announced the changes to the stick stringing requirements for women’s lacrosse sticks earlier this month, social media was excited and a proliferation of images of women’s sticks with a mesh pocket quickly emerged. Excitement and interest is a great thing for any game, so I was happy to see that many players involved in the game saw the potential of these stringing changes. But honestly, the focus on using a men’s mesh pocket in a women’s stick was not the intent or goal of the changes, but one of the many consequences.

The Lacrosse All-Stars North American Invitational box tournament kicked off [Thursday] at the Onondaga Nation Fieldhouse. The defending champions, the Thompson Brothers Lacrosse team, easily advanced, beating the Cleveland Demons 15-4.

(September 26, 2017)… The Rochester Knighthawks announced today that they have signed Trevor Stacey to a two-year deal. On Sept. 18, the Knighthawks selected Stacey in the fifth round (44th overall) of the 2017 National Lacrosse League Entry Draft.
SPARKS, Md. — US Lacrosse today announced best-selling author and leadership consultant Jon Gordon as the keynote speaker of the 2018 US Lacrosse Convention (LaxCon).
Gordon, who played lacrosse at Cornell University, will address lacrosse’s largest educational event at 8 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 20, in the fourth-floor ballroom of the Baltimore Convention Center. The day and time represent a shift from previous Friday night keynote sessions.

(September 25, 2017)— Corrigan Sports Enterprises (CSE), in conjunction with Under Armour, announced today Cascade will continue to serve as the official helmet of the Under Armour All-America Lacrosse games and Underclass Tournament through the year 2020. Cascade has served in this role for the sport’s most elite All-Star game since 2009.
Included in the National Federation of State High School Associations (NFHS) and US Lacrosse rule changes for the 2018 high school lacrosse season was the approval of an optional 120-yard unified field size that can be used for both boys' and girls' lacrosse. The existing field sizes for high school lacrosse can still be used, but the unified field is a legal alternative.
With the fall lacrosse under way, we will all witness the beginning of some new coaching careers. You don’t have to be brand new — like Kevin Conry is at Michigan — but emerging careers mean the introduction of new philosophies, individual priorities and ultimately, the development of a style and language that will distinguish the delivery of these new unique messages. To this day, after coaching college lacrosse for 42 years, I still only “maybe” would admit to having said the same thing or used the same expression twice over an extended career.
(September 25, 2017)… The Rochester Knighthawks will have plenty of representation at the international exhibition game between Team USA and Team Canada on Saturday, Oct. 21 in Hamilton. In fact, six Knighthawks players will suit up in the fourth annual Heritage Cup, which will face off at 7:00 p.m. at FirstOntario Centre.

The 'weekend' runs Thursday, Sept 28 to Sunday Oct 1 and includes the Haudenosaunee Wooden Stick Festival: free demonstrations of Wooden Stick Making, Native Food, Arts, traditional dance and culture, and lacrosse. The movie 'The Spirit Game, Pride of a Nation' will also be shown daily at the Onondaga Nation softball fields and new Field-house (Route 11A).
“I'M PSYCHOLOGICALLY tuned to the game of box lacrosse,” he said. “I feel like I finally figured out how to play field lacrosse my senior year in college. My last year I finally started to think, 'You know, I've got this game figured out.' When it comes to box lacrosse, it's like second nature to me. Every aspect of the game just makes a lot more sense to me than with field.”
While this will be a lot of fun for the 2018 season, there are some moments that stick out in my mind from which I would have loved to have seen some behind-the-scene footage. In no particular order, these come to mind first:
COBLESKILL?– When information reached the SUNY Cobleskill Athletic Department that former Fighting Tiger lacrosse player Anthony Yevoli, an Amsterdam graduate, the 2017 Upstate New York NY/Vermont Leukemia and Lymphoma Society “Boy of the Year” and the 2016 North Eastern Athletic Conference Inspirational Award recipient was in need of a bone marrow transplant the department put a plan into action.
ITHACA, N.Y. — Women's lacrosse recently announced its fall schedule which consists of three consecutive Saturdays full of exciting match ups. The team will open up play at home on Sept. 23 as part of the Big Red Bonanza held at Schoellkopf Field. Cornell will face both Canisius and Delaware twice with the first game commencing at 11 a.m.

Box office and season ticket prices for the 2017-18 season will not increase from last season in the 100 and 200 level. Season tickets for the 2017-18 season range from $13 to $32 per game, saving fans up to $81 for the season. Individual game tickets start at $15 per game in the 300 level.
On Saturday, September 23, 2017, the Siena Women’s Lacrosse Team will be hosting a multi-team Fall Ball scrimmage. (September 21, 2017)… The Rochester Knighthawks announced today that they have signed Eric Shewell (shoe-ull) to a one-year deal. The gritty defenseman recently won a Mann Cup with the Peterborough Lakers, playing under Knighthawks head coach Mike Hasen.
The Syracuse men's lacrosse team will participate in Inside Lacrosse/STX's "The Season" – a year long multi-platform digital content series that will feature four of the nation's top lacrosse programs.
"The Season" will revolve around 10 episodes that will be shot between September 2017 and May 2018, following the spotlighted programs from fall ball through the NCAA Tournament. The series will also be supported by live social media content shot on-site as well as interactive social programs.
ALBANY — What’s struck Connor Fields, the leading scorer last season in NCAA men’s lacrosse, about Tehoka Nanticoke during this month’s University at Albany workouts is how quickly the freshman has become a focal point for the Great Danes.
“There was no adjustment period for him to get settled into college lacrosse,” Fields said. “He came in right away and you could see how good of a player he is.”
The life of a college athlete allows very little time for relaxation. These athletes constantly bounce around from class to practice and have to devote much of their other time to studying. For Ithaca College junior Kaylou Stoddard, this commitment is doubled, as she is a member of both the field hockey team and the women’s lacrosse team.

The Cortland men's lacrosse team is hosting its Fall Red Dragon Prospect Day, Sunday, Oct. 29 from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the SUNY Cortland Stadium Complex. The Prospect Day, open to all 2018-20 high school graduates, is an opportunity to be instructed by Cortland's head lacrosse coach Steve Beville and his staff. The day includes individual drills, transition drills and a scrimmage.
The Cortland men's lacrosse team is hosting its 11th annual SUNY Cortland Lacrosse Alumni and Supporters Golf Tournament on Saturday, Oct. 7, at the Elm Tree Golf Course in Cortland. The entry fee is $90 per person or $360 for a foursome and includes 18 holes of golf with a cart, prizes for first and second place, longest drive and closest to the pin. Seventy-five total prizes will be awarded. A steak dinner follows the golf.
The Women’s Professional Lacrosse League announced Wednesday the 37 players who will participate in the league’s first showcase game Sept. 30 at US Lacrosse headquarters in Sparks, Md. The game will be broadcast live on Lax Sports Network.
Co-founded in 2016 by Digit Murphy and Aronda Kirby, the UWLX features teams based in four major sports markets: the Baltimore Ride, the Boston Storm, the Long Island Sound and the Philadelphia Force. The league wrapped up its second season in early August. Long Island capped an undefeated campaign with its second straight UWLX title.
SPARKS, Md. — US Lacrosse today announced changes to the national leadership structure for youth and scholastic member-officials. This announcement is the culmination of over two years’ worth of work and collaboration involving US Lacrosse staff, volunteer and key officiating leadership. A task force was convened by the US Lacrosse Board of Directors in April and that task force, composed of staff and officiating leaders from around the country, proposed this change to the Board of Directors earlier this month.

Hobart College lacrosse All-American Frank Brown (Silver Creek) was drafted by the Georgia Swarm during the National Lacrosse League Draft last night. The 2017 NEC Player of the Year was the 24th overall pick.
Brown was the first pick of the third round. Over the summer, he was also drafted by the Rochester Rattlers of Major League Lacrosse.
On Tuesday, US Lacrosse reported that Brown’s women’s lacrosse team will be the first Division I squad to all wear full headgear in the fall season. The move is significant in the sport that has debated for years whether or not helmets are necessary in the women’s game.
“The coaches and staff sat down and looked at the pool of players, and there are a few guys banged up who can’t play, but this is just one of many opportunities we’ll have to evaluate what we have,” said U.S. head coach Regy Thorpe. “We’ve got a good mix of veterans and younger players.”
SPARKS, Md. – US Lacrosse has announced that four players with UAlbany ties have been named to the US indoor roster for the Heritage Cup on October 21st. (September 15, 2017)… Marty Hill waited seven years to make his National Lacrosse League debut. That day finally came on April 22, when he played for the Rochester Knighthawks. It was an emotional evening for the 27-year-old transition man, who was playing in front of his family and friends.

SPARKS, Md. — Women’s game rules representatives from the NCAA, NFHS and US Lacrosse have collaborated with industry representatives to simplify the stick stringing specifications for women’s collegiate, high school and girls’ youth play for the 2018 season.
The Under Armour All-America Lacrosse Underclass Tournament will remain at Towson University and
contested simultaneously with the All-America senior games. The Underclass competition, open to studentathletes
from the graduating classes of 2019-2022, features boys’ and girls’ teams from 12 different areas of the
nation with the addition of the CONNY region in 2018. The Underclass Tournament will run from Thursday, June
28th to Sunday, July 1st.
'This class as a whole has been committed for a while," Young said. "We have been anxiously awaiting their arrival in Hamilton. They are very diverse in terms of their positions as well as very talented and we are excited for them to hit the ground running."
"I was speechless when I first saw (Inside Lacrosse)," Nanticoke said. "My mom and my brother were the first two people I sent it to before it was even out. They just continued to tell me how proud they are of me doing that. Just thinking about it makes me want to tear up again."
MASSENA -- The Akwesasne Thunder lacrosse team is hosting the 2017 Nations Cup tournament, which kicks off Sept. 14 and will conclude Sept. 17 at 9 p.m. at the Massena Recreation Commission arena, 180 Harte Haven Plaza.

We want players that are fully committed to becoming better lacrosse players. We intend to have a select varsity level squad for committed players that want to play in college. At the younger levels, we want players that have a strong passion to excel at the highest levels.
(September 13, 2017)… The Rochester Knighthawks announced today that they have signed veteran defenseman Billy Dee Smith to a one-year deal. By agreeing to terms with the Knighthawks, the longtime Buffalo Bandit will now travel down I-90 to join his new team.
Late last week we dropped the list of the 21 teams coming to play in the 2017 LASNAI, this past weekend we announced the pool groups, and now we have the 2017 LASNAI Schedule out and ready for consumption! It’s been a big week of news for the LASNAI, and it’s not even close to ending.
The 2018 season is months away, but it’s not too early to start looking at some of the players expected to make an impact on the upcoming season. I have compiled a list of some of the players to watch for the upcoming season and breaking it down to the Classes of 2018, 2019 and 2020.
POUGHKEEPSIE, New York - Marist men's lacrosse freshman Andrew Evans was named one of the top faceoff men in the nation by Inside Lacrosse Magazine, it was announced Sept. 13. In the publication's Recruiting Issue Evans was ranked no. 11 out of the top 15 at his position.
NIAGARA UNIV., N.Y. – The Niagara Purple Eagles women's lacrosse team announced its 2017 fall schedule on Wednesday, with four away dates scheduled against a rigorous set of playday hosts in Canisius, Syracuse, Ohio State and Penn State. The Purple Eagles will also host their annual alumni game on October 14, followed by a home playday event on October 15.
The American Jewish Historical Society has opened an interactive exhibit in New York City entitled "1917: How One Year Changed the World.''
Part of the showcase includes artifacts from the life of war hero William Shemin, who played lacrosse and football at Syracuse.
(September 12, 2017)… The Rochester Knighthawks announced today that they have signed goalie Chase Martin to a one-year deal. Martin comes to the Knighthawks after helping the Senior “B” Six Nations Rivermen reach the President’s Cup Finals.

Simmons, himself a Hall of Famer, saw the same things a less-heralded coach, the late Mike Green, did when a 10-year-old Powell and his younger brother, Ryan, then 8, showed up for their first organized lacrosse league on the indoor cement at Duffy Fairgrounds in Watertown, N.Y.
“They’re both going to be All-Americans,” Green told the boys’ parents, Larry and Sue. (He might have said the same about youngest brother, Mikey, had he been there too.)
Head coach John Desko and the Syracuse men's lacrosse team welcome 19 newcomers – 18 freshmen and one transfer – to the Orange this season. The recruiting class of 2017 feature seven players ranked in Inside Lacrosse's top-100 and eight players ranked in the top-31 at their respective position by the publication.
POTSDAM, N.Y.—SUNY Potsdam men's lacrosse coach Rick Berkman has announced that Lindsey Pound (IHC) '16 and will join his coaching staff for the upcoming 2018 season. Pound, a Henderson N.Y. native and Immaculate Heart grad, played two seasons at Monroe Community College before he joined the Bears. With the Tribunes he competed in 27 games, recording 31 points and 123 groundballs as well as being named co-defensive MVP and all-region. Pound spent the 2015 and 2016 seasons in Potsdam, totaling 11 points and 144 groundballs. After earning second team All-SUNYAC honors in 2015, he was a Face-off Year Book Preseason Honorable Mention All-America, first team all-conference and team Defensive MVP in 2016.

Matt Lalli – Class of 2008 (Men's Lacrosse) - Lalli remains Colgate's career assist leader with 95. He added 89 goals and is tied for fifth in career points (184).
Courtney Miller – Class of 2012 (Women's Lacrosse) - Miller became just the third player in Patriot League women's lacrosse history to be named All-Patriot League First Team four consecutive seasons. In 2012, she was the Patriot League Midfielder of the Year and Colgate's Female Student-Athlete of the Year.
The 2017 LASNAI field has been set, TWENTY-ONE teams have signed up to compete for the trophy this year, and Round Robin pool groups will be announced on Saturday!

SPARKS, Md. — US Lacrosse today opened registration for the annual US Lacrosse Convention (LaxCon), set for Jan. 19-21, 2018, in Baltimore. LaxCon represents lacrosse’s largest educational event, trade show and kickoff to the season.
A ceremony will be held at 6:15 p.m. Sept. 15 at Williamsville South High School, 5950 Main Street. Due to limited parking, a shuttle from Mill Middle School begins at 5 p.m. At Williamsville South, the district added a synthetic turf field and built a new stadium with bleacher capacity for 2,700 people.
The Bandits will play East Division rival Rochester Knighthawks four times this season. Buffalo also faces off three times against both New England and Toronto. The team will see Georgia, Saskatchewan, and Calgary twice each, while only facing off against Vancouver and Colorado once.
Following opening night, the Knighthawks will be back in action on Saturday, Dec. 23, as they battle the Buffalo Bandits at 7:30 p.m. The game is the first of four against their thruway rivals. It marks the first time since the 2014 season that the Knighthawks will play the Bandits four times during the regular season.
The National Lacrosse League (NLL), the largest men’s professional indoor lacrosse league in North America, today announced the 2017-2018 NLL regular season schedule, marking the 32nd year of professional indoor lacrosse. The 81-game season, consisting of 18 games per team, will begin with the start of NLL Face Off Weekend on Friday, Dec. 8 with the New England Black Wolves hosting last year’s champion, the Georgia Swarm, while the Buffalo Bandits host the Toronto Rock in a great East Division rivalry matchup.

The Intercollegiate Women’s Lacrosse Coaches Association has selected six coaches for induction into the organization’s first Hall of Fame class. The inaugural class will be formally enshrined on Thursday, November 16 during the IWLCA Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony during the IWLCA Annual Meetings at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
The 2017 class is comprised of Missy Foote, Tina Sloan Green, Carole Kleinfelder, Sharon Pfluger, Cindy Timchal, and Marge Watson. The class was chosen by the IWLCA’s Hall of Fame committee, chaired by Princeton University coach Chris Sailer.
For former Knighthawks players Tim Soudan and Ron Cogan, the connection to the tournament goes beyond allegiance to their former club. What brought the past K-Hawks to Oakville, Ontario the final weekend of August was to watch their sons play for the junior versions of the Knighthawks.
It's my favorite quote coming from this week's multi-talented guest: my older brother, Mike Rabil. There are many layers to how this saying can be interpreted, especially in sports. An easy translation could be "people win championships, not statistics." However, I think unpacking which type of person who wins championships should be our core focus. Mike believes the emotional intelligence of an individual has become the core ingredient to business and sports success.
I have also been hearing that these new rules will accelerate a scenario in which prospects need to attend lacrosse events in the fall in lieu of participation in football and soccer. Let me suggest to high school players and their parents that every reputable college coach that I know would prefer you play a fall sport.

BOSTON — 3d Lacrosse has announced an agreement with the United Women’s Lacrosse League to take over all aspects of the four-team professional league’s operations in a move that will spawn new opportunities for women and girls lacrosse players nationwide.
