The Rochester Knighthawks will kick off their 25th Anniversary season on Saturday, Dec. 29, when they host the Philadelphia Wings at 7:30 p.m. at Connors & Ferris Field at The Blue Cross Arena. On a historic night, Rochester rekindles a rivalry that lasted 20 years and included 52 hard-fought games, including a pair of playoff wins during the Knighthawks’ run of three straight NLL Cups.
It was another thrilling game between the Georgia Swarm (2-0) and Toronto Rock (1-1), but the Swarm were able to secure their second win of the season off some last-second heroics from Lyle Thompson.
Lyle scored his fourth goal of the night with 23.2 seconds left to put the Swarm up 12-11 in Scotiabank Arena. Friday night’s win marks Georgia’s fourth-straight win in Toronto since 2016. Randy Staats achieved some personal history when he scored his 100th career goal in the fourth quarter.

Friday night they host the Vancouver Warriors, and are hoping to give the home crowd a different outcome than last week, as they dropped their home opening game 17-12 against the Toronto Rock.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. – The Syracuse women's lacrosse team will face-off against last year's national runner-up and two semifinalists in 2019. The Orange will play the top three teams in Inside Lacrosse's preseason rankings, including No. 1 Boston College, No. 2 Maryland and No. 3 North Carolina. Last year, her sister Abby, 16, played in the Brogden Cup but her sights are set on Upper State New York for the fall of 2020 after she committed in September to St. Bonaventure University for an NCAA Division 1 field lacrosse scholarship.
Whatever happens this season, it is good to know that the Rochester Knighthawks will be staying in Rochester. This offseason was immensely stressful for fans of the team, as rumors swirled all summer long before news broke that current owner and GM would be moving the team – but not taking the Knighthawks name – to Halifax next summer. But, owners of the Buffalo Bandits, were awarded an expansion franchise by the league and will direct the “new” Knighthawks come 2020. Yes, I know, that’s a lot to process.
In the first game of the 2019 NLL season, the Buffalo Bandits faced-off against the revived Philadelphia Wings franchise in what was an exciting back and forth game that most fans likely thought the Bandits should have won much more easily than the 17-15 score indicated. Philadelphia’s strong first game came as a surprise, but nonetheless the Buffalo Bandits came out on top with a win thanks to newcomers like Corey Small and veterans like Dhane Smith, Shawn Evans and Thomas Hoggarth on offense.

If you watched the U.S. women’s national team’s battle with James Madison at the Team USA Fall Classic, you probably noticed something unusual about eight minutes in. Team USA goalie Liz Hogan was awarded the assist on Kylie Ohlmiller’s second goal.

Over the past two seasons I have been fortunate to watch two close friends win their first NCAA championship, John Tillman in 2017 and Andy Shay in 2018. Andy and I went to high school together, so it was great to be at the game and capture the emotion, especially post-game.
Fairport High School will host this year's Upstate Lacrosse Coaches Clinic, which will be held on Sunday, January 27th. The clinic, sponsored by Graph-Tex, will feature four local standouts as speakers. This clinic should be of interest to any men's lacrosse coaches.

The Intercollegiate Men’s Lacrosse Coaches’ Convention (IMLCA) is in conjunction with the United States Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association’s (USILA) annual meetings, and these days, it’s usually in December. I think it’s been in Baltimore ever since they started the coaches’ clinics.
Which is not to be confused with the US Lacrosse National Convention, aka “LaxCon.”
The Rochester Knighthawks have announced their 21-man roster and two of their four practice squad members for the 2018-19 season. The Knighthawks enter their 25th Anniversary season with a solid returning corps of players from last year’s National Lacrosse League (NLL) finalist team.
The 2018-19 roster will see the return of Bandits veterans Kevin Brownell, Steve Priolo and Dhane Smith along with Josh Byrne, who led all rookies in scoring during the 2017-18 season. First year Bandits highlighting the roster are offseason trade acquisition Corey Small and free agent signing Matt Vinc. Also making the team are Matt Gilray and Ian MacKay, the third and fourth selections in the 2018 NLL Entry Draft.

The Bandits went deep into the offseason with an enormous question looming – would general manager Steve Dietrich and head coach Troy Cordingley return? After five months of waiting, Buffalo finally announced in September the franchise was retaining its GM but reassigned Cordingley and replaced him with his two assistants from 2018, John Tavares and Rich Kilgour.

For the USILA Coach of the Year Awards, Yale head coach Andy Shay was named the Division I Coach of the Year. He deferred the honor to his staff in the crowd— Andrew Baxter, Andrew Stimmel and Tom Compitello (now an assistant at Lehigh).
In the spring of 1990, Hobart finished its regular season schedule with a 12-1 record, their only loss being to Division I powerhouse and Kraus-Simmons Trophy rival Syracuse. The Rochester have announced today that they have signed forwards Joe Resetarits and Pat Saunders to one-year deals. Both players will suit up this weekend as the Knighthawks play a pair of preseason games.
Cody Jamieson enjoyed his first trip to Halifax in 2007 as a member of the Iroquois national lacrosse team.
His visit ended with a silver medal after a 15-14 overtime loss to Canada in the world indoor lacrosse championship.

In November the Gaffer Elite 2022/2023 Team won the Aloha Tournament in Maryland with a 3-0 record. BALTIMORE – The Cornell men's lacrosse team has been selected to finish fifth in the 2019 Inside Lacrosse Face-Off Yearbook Preseason Poll, as was announced this afternoon by the publication. Since 2010, Cornell has been picked to finish among the top 10 six times.
ALBANY, N.Y. – The University at Albany men’s lacrosse program, coming off the first NCAA Championship Weekend appearance in program history, is rated No. 15 in the Inside Lacrosse Preseason Face-off Yearbook rankings, which were released Wednesday.
The 17-game schedule is highlighted by trips to South Bend, Ind., to face off against Notre Dame, Harrisonburg, Va., to play defending NCAA champion James Madison, and a home contest against seven-time national champion Northwestern.
The Orange come in to the season with a ton of experience carrying over from a year ago. Syracuse loses two starters in attackman Brendan Bomberry and goaltender Dom Madonna. With that experience as well as guys such as Tucker Dordevic and Brendan Curry making immediate impacts as freshmen, the Orange will look to return to Championship Weekend for the first time since 2013.
Jordan Bentley received “a lot” of calls on Sept. 1, the first day college coaches could contact her about attending their schools and playing lacrosse there. She’s glad to have ended the process last weekend with just one call.
The Rochester Knighthawks announced today that they have re-signed Kyle Jackson to a five-year deal. After two impressive seasons, the former first-round selection solidified his commitment to the organization and Owner and General Manager Curt Styres by signing the multi-year deal.
College lacrosse season is almost here. Preseason games will start in a little over a month with the regular season starting in just under two. The college game has been played without a formal shot clock rule for years. Most coaches wanted one instituted, but each had their own opinion on how to go about doing so.
In November the 2020-2021 Gaffer Elite Team traveled to the Aloha Tournament in Maryland and won their AA Bracket of the Event. They were led by outstanding goal tending by Elon Friends and Quinn Sullivan with a stellar defense of Sean Heffernan, Dom Pagano, Drew Rankin, Austin Callahan, Riley Drake and Chase Smith.
"We are excited to about this year's slate of non-conference games with the addition of Mercer, Hartford, and Air Force, which will continue to provide our program a competitive challenge," Miyashita said. "The men in our program look forward to playing against these new additions to the schedule as they prepare for another challenging conference schedule as we work towards defending our conference title from last year."

Resetarits’ performance in KeyBank Center in Rochester’s regular season finale is the most memorable. Resetarits scored six points against a desperate Bandits team clawing for a playoff spot. He eclipsed Tom Schreiber’s single-season scoring record for an American player.

SCHENECTADY, N.Y. – Head coach Paul Wehrum has announced the captains of the 2019 Union College men's lacrosse team, with three seniors and two juniors selected to lead the Dutchmen into the upcoming season.
The Rochester Knighthawks announced today that they have re-signed Graeme Hossack to a three-year deal. The 2018 National Lacrosse League Defensive Player of the Year enters his fourth year with the organization after his most dominating season to date.
The first weekend of Bandits camp started off with 31 players participating in three sessions, which included the annual open practice where fans got a first-hand look of the team going through drills, five-on-fives and one-on-ones. Later in the evening, the club had an intrasquad scrimmage.

All teams will play a full 18 game schedule. Games that were cancelled from the first two weekends have been rescheduled. The regular season will run from December 15th through the last weekend of April.
