Syracuse returns to the place where its 2019 season ended. The Orange lost to Northwestern in a four-hour, 22-minute marathon game delayed multiple times due to stormy weather. This season, SU comes in as the higher-ranked team and will look to knock off the Wildcats on the same field that negated another final four appearance for coach Gary Gait.

ACC Network will broadcast 34 games this spring, marking the most television coverage ever for ACC men’s and women’s lacrosse. In addition, there is a Thursday night window for ACC men’s and women’s lacrosse.

WATERTOWN — It’s been over 30 years since Matt Branski roamed the sidelines as head coach of the Watertown High School boys’ lacrosse team, but the legacy and lessons he imparted still resonate with his former players to this day. Coach Branski died Wednesday morning at his Bishop Street home, a few blocks from the fields where he drilled and trained teams that amassed 244 wins over a 20-year head coaching career. He was 84.

During the summer and throughout the fall, when Syracuse goalie Drake Porter walked into the Orange locker room he was reminded of May 11, 2019.

The television in the SU locker room repeated highlights of Syracuse’s last game — a 2019 NCAA tournament first-round loss against Loyola — on repeat. He couldn’t avoid it. It was a game that 15 balls ended up in the back of Porter’s net, the most he gave up all season.

TORONTO, ONTARIO — The Federation of International Lacrosse (FIL) formally announces that Richard (Dick) Pepper has been named Referee in Chief for the 2020 FIL U19 Men’s World Lacrosse Championship. Ireland Lacrosse will host the event July 9-18, 2020 at the University of Limerick in Castletroy, Limerick, Ireland.

Pepper played lacrosse in high school at Christian Brothers Academy, Syracuse, New York from 1971 to 1974 and played at Siena College, Loudonville, New York, U.S.A. from 1975 to 1978. Pepper’s coaching experience includes stints at three high schools in New York State from 1979 to 1987: Baldwinsville, East Syracuse-Minoa, and Christian Brothers Academy. He served as Head Coach at Christian Brothers Academy in 1986 and 1987.

When people learn about my past life as a Division III head coach of men’s lacrosse at Capital University (Columbus, Ohio), it is usually followed up with some variation of one question: What’s the difference between coaching men and women? My typical answer is that, while I am incredibly grateful for my time in the men’s game, coaching women has made me a more efficient and effective coach – and that I wish I made the switch sooner.

2. Syracuse
Syracuse returns the majority of its starters from 2019. The most highlighted player from the Orange is dynamic attacker Emily Hawryschuk, who has spent the off season suiting up with Team USA. Hawryschuk proved last year she can produce big-time stats as the Orange’s leader in goals, points, game-winners, and draw controls all while spending most of the season being locked off by opponents.

The reigning NCAA and ACC champions, the Cavaliers garnered 21 points in balloting among the ACC’s five head coaches. Notre Dame was No. 2 with 18 points, followed by Syracuse (15), Duke (11) and North Carolina (10).

The Preseason All-ACC Team features 15 student-athletes representing all five conference teams, with four selections each from Syracuse and Virginia, three from North Carolina and Notre Dame and one from Duke.

SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Following a 9-5 campaign in 2019, Syracuse men’s lacrosse opened up its preseason Sunday with two scrimmages in the Ensley Athletic Center on SU’s campus.

In the first scrimmage, Syracuse defeated Hofstra 17-3, with starters playing the majority of the first two quarters. Hofstra and Vermont scrimmaged next and played to a 10-10 tie before SU defeated Vermont, 11-10, to finish the day. The Catamounts outscored Syracuse 5-1 in the final quarter in which the Orange played mainly reserves.

Junior attacker Livy Rosenzweig is a two-time first-team All-League selection while junior midfielder Sam Fiedler and sophomore defender Katie Detwiler were both second-team picks last season. Greyhounds’ junior midfielder Elli Kluegel was also named to the preseason team. The Black Knights representatives, senior midfielder Samantha Stewart and junior attack Jackie Brattan, were both first-team honorees last season. Senior goalkeeper Maddie Burns and 2019 Patriot League Rookie of the Year Caroline Raymond garnered second-team honors for Army West Point.

The Greyhounds were selected as the team to take home the 2020 Patriot League Men's Lacrosse Championship Title. Loyola Maryland and Army West Point both collected 111 points, but Loyola was the preseason favorite by virtue of eight first-place votes, while Army West Point recorded seven first-place votes.

Construction of the $3.5 million state-of-the-art dome was completed last year. Due to state fire code, occupancy of the dome is limited to 299 people, including student-athletes, coaches, officials and game management staff. Admission for the scrimmage against the Wolverines will be limited to people on the teams' pass lists.

We arrived early Friday afternoon and had decided ahead of time that we would skip Sunday morning’s offerings, and head for home late Saturday afternoon. It was a short trip, then, but, as always, we were glad we went.

(Philadelphia, PA) – A night after celebrating the franchise’s historic first win, the Rochester Knighthawks (1-5) were unable to duplicate the effort Sunday night at Wells Fargo Center, where the Philadelphia Wings (4-2) scored seven power-play goals on their way to a 12-4 win in the weekend finale between the two teams.

Shamblin has started all 30 games in his first two seasons at Detroit Mercy, earning MAAC Defensive Player of the Year honors last season. He had 11.47 saves per game and a .512 save percentage, upping that to .616 in league play. He was a gamer, too, making 21 saves against Siena in a postseason-clinching win.

HAMILTON – Colgate women's lacrosse will have a new home for the 2020 campaign. For their seven home matchups, the Raiders will take to Crown Field at Andy Kerr Stadium.

Previously playing on soccer's Beyer-Small '76 field surface, the women's lacrosse program joins men's lacrosse on the football field turf this season. In addition to a 10,221 seating capacity, the Raiders will have the benefits of a new videoboard system for added in-game experience.

The team announced that Wyatt Weil, a member of the 2019 state Division I championship team, was diagnosed with positive acute lymphobiastic leukemia, and would receive treatments in South Carolina, where he was just about to graduate after training with the United States Marine Corps.

To honor Weil (also a member of LaFayette’s 2019 boys lacrosse state Class C championship team), the Cougars sold “Wyatt Strong” bracelets at Meachem Rink during last Tuesday’s game against Fulton, with all proceeds helping to pay for Weil’s treatments.
