Bertrand was a good player at Baldwinsville but because he split his high school talents between hockey and lacrosse he didn’t blossom in the latter sport until he was older. He drew little Division I interest and landed at Division II Merrimack.

Bertrand was a machine at attack for that school, scoring 210 goals in 58 career games. He helped Merrimack win back-to-back NCAA titles in 2018 and 2019 and was named the D-II Player of the Year in each of those seasons.

With collegiate spring sports starting to pick up, most coaches do not know what to expect from their teams due to the lack of time in-person and practices. Oswego State’s women’s lacrosse head coach Britt Howard falls in that category. Losing 11 seniors and all of the 2020 spring season, her team is full of new faces. In this unique time for sports, Howard’s goal is to make sure the team is able to gel together with a lot of new players and very limited facetime over the last year.
