Freshmen Game Reports
On May 14th, the freshman Northstars hosted the undefeated FM Hornets who were fresh off an overtime victory over the West Genesee Wildcats. The Hornets jumped out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first quarter before the Northstar's defense settled in and began to play intelligent lacrosse. Throughout the remainder of the game the team only allowed one more goal. Unfortunately the Northstar's offense was held at bay by the tenacious Hornets defense and could only muster two goals. The goals were scored by Mike Fiorini and Rob Doxtater. The final score of the game was FM 5-CNS 2. The 3-3 Northstars next host the Red Hawks from Central Square on Friday May 16th.
The freshman Northstar's offense finally showed up to play! While they started slow, the offense, recently revamped, had a great performance scoring a season high 17 goals. Riley Hadden and Anthony Mirizio had career days with 4 and 3 goal respectively, Riley also chipped in with an assist as well as doing an excellent job at the faceoff X. Recently moved to attack to add stability to the Northstar offense, Robert Spenard had 2 goals and 2 assists, and did a very nice job running the offense. Single Northstar goals were turned in by Dan Ciciarelli, Dylan Kenyon, Mike Fiorini, Nick Hall, Josh Desimone, and Jacob Werksman. The defense posted their first shutout of the season, limiting the Red Hawks to only five shots on goal. The defense is led by goalies Jacob Werksman and Zach Martin and includes defensemen Matt Strzelecki, Mike Parody, Chad Izyk, Ty Koster, Nick Hall, Robert Edick, and Anthony Ventrone. The 4-3 Northstars travel to Rome to take on RFA on May 20th.
Hoping to keep the offense onslaught that they showed against Central Square going, the freshman Northstar's traveled to Rome to play RFA. Again the coaching staff worked on "tweeking" the offense to ensure that the right people were in the right position, and it paid off. The Northstar's scored early and often. The attack of Mike Fiorini, Dylan Kenyon, and Robert Spenard each had two goals a piece, Spenard also chipped in with three assists while Kenyon and Fiorini each had one. Robby Doxtater had another strong game since moving up to the first midfield line, he chipped in with two goals. Single goals were scored by James Segars, Nick Hall, Dan Ciciarelli, Colin Crooks and Patrick Kenyon. The defense continued to play well allowing only a single goal late in the fourth quarter. The Northstars, 5-3 on the season, travel to B'ville next on May 23rd to take on the Bees.
Hoping to avenge a 5-3 loss to the Bees earlier in the season, the Northstars traveled to Baldwinsville hoping to continue their new found offensive firepower. The first quarter was a standoff with both teams having numerous chances to score, but both team's defenses stepped up and ended those threats. While the first quarter was even, the second belonged to the Bees as they jumped out to a 5-3 lead. Finally realizing that they didn't need to take a back seat to anyone, the Northstars came out in the third quarter and quickly got their offense back on track. Helped greatly by some fantastic play at the faceoff X by Riley Hadden and Daniel Ciciarelli, the Northstars quickly evened and then went ahead, and never looked back. The defense, who did a fantastic job all day clearing the ball, stepped up and shutout the Bees in the second half. Robert Spenard and Riley Hadden each had 3 goals, while Dylan Kenyon, James Segars, and Nick Hall each scored one. The game was a total team effort, one that the coaching staff is hoping can be carried on to the teams final two games against Liverpool and West Genesee. The 6-3 Northstars travel to Liverpool on Wednesday May 23rd to face the Warriors at the Liverpool Annex.

Freshman Game Reports - CNS vs. Liverpool
The Freshman Northstars hosted the Warriors from Liverpool on May 12th and came away with a well deserved 6-1 win. After an error filled first half, the Northstars came out on fire in the third quarter with three goals and did a tremendous job on defense keeping the Warriors away from goalie Jacob Werksman. Offensively the Northstars were led by Mike Fiorini, who had 2 goals, Dylan Kenyon, James Segar, Rob Doxtater and Collin Crooks each had a goal. Dylan Kenyon had two assists, while Daniel Ciciarelli, Rob Doxtater and defenseman Matt Strezlecki each had one. The defense continues to be the strength of the team with starters Matt Strezlecki, Mike Parody, Chad Izyk and long stick midfielder Zach Hall all having very strong games, as did their backups Ty Koster, Robert Edick, and Anthony Ventrone. While their names don't show up in the scorebook, Riley Hadden and Nick Hall did a great job on both ends of the field. Next up for the Northstars is a game on Wednesday May 14th with the F-M Hornets at NSJHS. Their record is now 3-2

Monday, May 05, 2008 By Donna Ditota and Dave Rahme (Staff writers)
"Canisius, which earned its way into the postseason by winning the MAAC Tournament and its automatic bid, is playing in its first NCAA Tournament. The Golden Griffs won a school-record 10 games this season (they're 10-5) and are led, in part, by former Cicero-North Syracuse freshman attackman Nick LoCoco, who was named the league's rookie of the year."
LoCoco is second in the nation for assists with 33, as well as 12 goals.

Freshmen Game Reports
Game 3 - (1-1)
The Northstars were looking to get back on track in their third game of the young season when they entertained the the freshman team from Rome Free Academy. While the weather was cold and damp the Northstar's offense was on fire. Riley Hadden led the offensive show with three goals and Patrick Kenyon was close behind with two. Chipping in with single goals were Dan Ciciarelli, Robert Spenard, James Segar, Robby Doxtater, Nick Hall and long pole Matt Strezlecki. Also adding a goal was newcomer to the game of lacrosse, Nico Commisso, who scored in the fourth quarter. Another strong performance was put in by the defense who continued to block the way for goalie Jacob Werksman and Zach Martin. The Northstars came away with a 12-1 victory and next entertain rival West Genesee at the North Syracuse Junior High School.
Game 4 - (2-1)
After coming out in the first quarter and playing the best lacrosse of the season the wheels fell off for the freshman Northstars as they lost a lopsided 11-2 contest to the Wildcats from West Genesee. Mike Fiorini had both goals for the Northstars. Passing and catching continue to hinder the Northstar's progress, as well unforced errors. While the score does not really indicate it, defensively the Northstars played very well in settled situations. The Northstars look forward to getting back onto the winning side when they entertain the Liverpool Warriors on May 12th at the NSJHS.
Freshmen Game Reports
The freshman Northstars began the 2008 season on the road against the Central Square Red Hawks. The Northstars came out strong and jumped out to an early lead thanks to a great first quarter performance from Scott Slater, who had two goals. Unfortunately the second quarter was not as kind to Scott who was forced to leave the game midway through the 2nd quarter with a broken leg. Scott will be lost for the rest of the season and will be greatly missed. The Northstars came away with a well earned 11-1 win.
The freshman Northstars opened up a six game home stand with a game against the Baldwinsville Bees. Both teams came into the contest without a loss, but it was the Bees who came away from this one still undefeated earning a 5-3 victory. The Northstars were lead offensively by Dylan Kenyon, Riley Hadden and Rob Doxtater who each had a goal. On the defensive end the Northstars did a very nice job, with Mike Parody, Chad Izyk, Matt Strezlecki, Zach Hall, Ty Koster, Robert Edick, and Anthony Ventrone all having strong games. The Northstar's goalies Jacob Werksman and Zach Martin wre also very strong between the pipes. The Northstar's next entertain RFA.
